The Adirondack High Peaks region is a place of uncommon and rugged beauty preserved as "forever wild."

The Lodge is on the High Peaks Scenic Trail, and Keene lies at the center of the network of hiking trails that lead to the tallest Adirondack peaks, including Mount Marcy, New York's highest point.

Keene includes spectacular mountain lakes, including Lake Tear of the Clouds, the source of the Hudson River.  Running through Keene is the AuSable River, with waterfalls and secluded swimming holes.

A wide range of outdoor activities are close at hand, including hiking, rock climbing, ice climbing, fishing, canoeing, swimming, biking, snow-shoeing, downhill and cross-country skiing and skating.

The Olympic ski venue at Whiteface Mountain is 11 miles northwest of the Lodge.  Mount Van Hoevenberg, the Olympic cross-country skiing, luge and bobsled facility, is 7 miles west, and the Olympic Center Arena in downtown Lake Placid is 14 miles west.
